Latest News for Sebastian Campus

I apologize for not being a very good “blogger”.  It’s been way too long since I’ve made an entry.  But here goes!

First of all, thanks to all the wonderful volunteers that made our first church-wide covered dish supper on Sunday, November 1st a smashing success!  I don’t want to start naming names because I’m afraid I’ll forget someone and I don’t want to do that!  You know who you are and I can’t thank you enough for stepping up to the plate and doing such a great job.  The Barbeque Ministry did a great job on the chicken and hot dogs, and all the side dishes and desserts were great.  As for me, I slid in “SAFE!” just in time to eat after my trip from Atlanta that started at 4:00 that morning.  I am truly grateful that I was able to share my granddaughter’s 1st birthday with our son and his family as well as being with my church family for this special occasion.  My only regret is that I neglected to take any pictures!

On Saturday, November 7, 2009, 12 ladies and two babies enjoyed a “field trip” to The Holy Land Experience in Orlando.  What a glorious (and that word falls short describing it!) day it was.  The weather was perfect, and the fellowship was sweet.  Thank you, Lord, for such a blessing!  Every one of us felt God’s hand upon this trip, and we were so grateful.  (As you can see, this time I did remember to get some photos!)

After Communion

At the Prayer Garden

We all enjoyed the mini plays that really made the Bible come alive to us.  The “Passion” play which was held outdoors was so well done and moving.  We enjoyed communion together and were transported to the Upper Room.  The Scriptorium was an amazing place with lots of artifacts and parchments dating back to the 5th century.   The narration explained how God has protected His Word through the years, and we were all awestruck and thankful that we have access to His precious Word.  How we take it for granted.  Forgive us, Lord!

We saw many books of the Bible in various languages on parchment and animal skins. When I saw the scroll from Isaiah, I heard myself reciting one of my favorite verses:  “See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.”   (Isaiah 49:16)  This was the only time I was moved to quote a verse through the entire presentation. Afterwards, I purchased a book by Charles Spurgeon as a Christmas gift.  While we were waiting to go into the Wilderness Tabernacle (another spectacular exhibit!), I decided to check out the book. For fun, I opened it to November 7th, and was amazed that the devotional was on Isaiah 49:16!  (See the end of this “Blog” for an excerpt.

We serve such an awesome God–I know that word is overused, but until they invent another one, it will have to do!   I am so blessed to have so many faithful sisters in Christ to work alongside in the Women’s Ministry.  We are on the last few weeks of our Bible study on The Way of Agape.  It has been a wonderful experience, and we have learned so much about God, His Word, and each other.  I am so excited to share that we have some events and studies coming up.

  1. We are taking sign-ups for Share Your Thanksgiving, which is an opportunity for you to either be a guest or host to one or more people from the church body.  Check out the table by the front door.
  2. We will have an old-fashioned Cookie Exchange on Wednesday, December 9th.  Be on the lookout for flyers with detailed information, but SAVE THE DATE!  It’s going to be a lot of fun!
  3. We have a couple of Bible studies slated to start in the beginning of the New Year:
    1. Be Ye Transformed (by Nancy Misler, the author of The Way of Agape) (January start date)
    2. When Godly People Do Ungodly Things by Beth Moore (January start date)
    3. The Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian (February start date)
  4. Norm and I are currently working on the Spiritual Gifts Seminar which will be held on Saturday, February 13th at the main campus in Melbourne. I encourage all of you to prayerfully consider attending and learning how God has gifted you and how to use that gift for His Kingdom. We solicit your prayers as we prepare the teaching and hope to see a lot of friendly faces from Sebastian at that event.

I think that covers it for now.  I’ll try hard to do a better job in my “blogging” duties!  I hope you are blessed by these words from Charles Spurgeon:

“He keeps His promises a thousand times, and yet the next trial makes us doubt Him.  He never fails, and yet we’re as continually troubled with anxieties, molested with suspicions, and disturbed with fears, as if our God were a hallucination.  “See” is a word intended to excite admiration.  Here we have a theme for marveling.  Heaven and earth may well be astonished that rebels should have such a great nearness to the heart of infinite love as to be engraved on the palms of His hands.

“I have engraved you”.  It doesn’t say, “Your name”.  The name is there but that’s not all.  “I have engraved you.”  See the fullness of this!  I’ve engraved your person, image, situation, circumstances, sins, temptations, weaknesses, needs and works.  I’ve engraved everything about you and all that concerns you.  Will you ever say again that your God has forsaken you when He has engraved you on His own palms?”

 Love and blessings always,

Tina

Women’s Ministry

August 3, 2009  –

A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream is now a pleasant memory with lots of photographic evidence!  Seven moms and seven daughters enjoyed a night away to chill out, let their creative juices flow (see the photo of the memory boxes!), play games, laugh, and hopefully strengthen their bonds of love for each other.  God showed up in a mighty way, and I am so grateful.  I encourage all the moms and daughters to keep up with their "love journal" and make lots of memories to store in their memory boxes.  I hope we all learned something about each other, forgiveness, prayer, and the love of Jesus Christ.

In other Women’s Ministry news, we will be starting our new Bible study, The Way of Agape this Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. in Room M104 at Sebastian River High School.  Call Tina at 321-984-7331 if you would like to join us.

Love and blessings,

Tina
