Thursday, July 30th – You’ll be happy to know that I finally got my act together (well, kind of!) and the bulletin announcement is in this week’s bulletin about the new women’s study starting next Wednesday, August 5th. The Way of Agape, by Nancy Missler is a wonderful study that will truly change your life. We will be meeting at 7:00 pm at Sebastian River High School (room to be announced, depending on class size). Sign up at Connecting Point and join us as we learn how to love others with the love God has given us. (Book and workbook are $12.00 and will be available the first night)
Mid-Summer Night’s Dream: We’re all set for tomorrow night’s Mother-Daughter Mini Retreat. We have 16 women signed up (eight moms and eight daughters ranging in age from 14 to 30). I am very excited about what God is going to do at this event. We have some fun activities planned as well as some quiet time set aside for one-on-one devotions. This is going to be a very special time of bonding and healing. Please pray for us! I doubt any of us will get much sleep at all, but who has ever slept at a “slumber” party?
Speaking of no sleep, Calvary Chapel of Melbourne at Sebastian is happy to announce the birth of our newest member. Tara Russo (ladies from the Living Beyond Yourself study and the Women’s Tea will remember her) and her husband welcomed little Alex Anthony Russo. He was born on July 6, 2009 @ 1:47 pm and weighed in at 7 pounds 12 ounces and was 21 inches long. Please pray for this family and do yourself a favor—get out of my way the first Sunday he comes to church! Isn’t he adorable? What a miracle. Thank you, Lord, for Alex’s safe arrival.
Love and blessings!

Tuesday, July 21, 2009 – Well, ladies, it’s official. I am a blogger. I never thought I would see this day! Next thing you know I’ll have a Blackberry! For my first official act as a blogger, I want to welcome you to the Calvary Chapel of Melbourne at Sebastian’s website. I am blessed beyond words to have the privilege of working alongside Norman in this ministry. God is good, and His plans for us are always good. I work fulltime, so I don’t have the time I would like to have to devote to the ministry which frustrates me at times. But God is growing me and showing me that my work is also part of my ministry. Please pray for me!
A brief history: We started CCM-S the first Sunday in January of this year. It has been amazing to both Norm and me. The Lord put such a fabulous group of servants together in Sebastian, then blessed us to be in their midst! Sebastian River High School is a beautiful facility, perfectly suited to our needs. We are blessed beyond measure! The Women’s Ministry has had a few special events so far. (I will be sending photos of all events to the Photo Gallery in the next day or so for you to see for yourself!)
On February 12, 2009, we had a Women’s Ministry kick off event—“A Call to Love” at Sebastian River Landings Clubhouse. Over 60 women attended; it was a fun time getting to know each other. We shared some snacks, made nametags, had special music, and a teaching on 1 Corinthians 8:1– “For it is love that really builds up the church.”
The following week (February 19th) we kicked off our Thursday evening Bible Study with Living Beyond Yourself, a wonderful Beth Moore study on the Fruit of the Spirit. We averaged over 20 women each week and strong relationships in the Lord were built. We ended the study in May with a covered dish supper. I decided to take the summer off and take a study in Melbourne. I am in the middle of When Godly People Do Ungodly Things by Beth Moore. It is a great study, and I hope to offer it to the women of Sebastian in the near future. (Just didn’t want you to think I was getting lazy over the summer!)
On May 9th, we held our first annual Women’s Tea at the Collier Club. The theme was “A Time to Dance”, which featured an opening worship dance, a time of praise and worship, a brief teaching, door prizes, and great fellowship. Our table hostesses outdid themselves as you will see when you check out the Photo Gallery! Some of them have already started making plans for next year’s Tea!
Upcoming Events:
A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream—a mother-daughter mini retreat will be held on Friday, July 31st at the Judah House at the Melbourne Campus. We have four spaces left—two moms and two daughters. We will be meeting at 7:00 P.M. for pizza, a craft (we’re making memory boxes!), a movie, and talking late into the night, no doubt! We will be wrapping it up around 11:00 on Saturday morning. It will be a special time of bonding and sharing. If you and your daughter (age 16+) would like to attend, please contact me. It’s going to be a lot of fun—essentially a slumber party for moms and daughters. What fun!
Bible Studies: I will begin The Way of Agape by Nancy Missler on Wednesday, August 5th at the high school (room number to be announced). I’ve led this study once before, and I know you will be blessed if you attend. Sign-ups started yesterday, Sunday, July 19th. An announcement will be made shortly regarding an additional Bible study. Two women from Sebastian are currently attending the Women’s Ministry leadership training so we will be able to branch out with different studies at different times/days.
I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful servants who make this thing called Calvary Chapel of Melbourne at Sebastian work. There are too many to name and I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out, but you know who you are and God certainly does!
I think that about does it for my first blog. I’m a talker and I type fast, so this may be dangerous! Seriously, please feel free to contact me any time—for prayer, for a shoulder to cry on, a sister to share good news with, or for help on classes, events and services available at the Melbourne campus.
“May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 NLT
Love and blessings always,
Tina
